Apparently there's a new variant of a nasty virus circulating via email again.

The subject will be "ILOVEYOU"
The sender will be someone you know (but who will be unaware that they have the virus)
The attachment is LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs

The thing will mess up your system and use your address book to send itself to others - who will be really grateful NOT

Delete the thing.
And remember the advice already given on this board in the past.

NEVER open attachments without knowing what they are. If you feel that you want to , get back to the sender and ask them exactly what it is.
In general delete anything but JPG's and GIF's immediately.
The .vbs in this instance is a Visual Basic Script.

NEVER run attached exe's FROM ANYBODY

Some advice on this virus is at

I reckon they will hunt down the one responsible for this!! *grin* .. it has cost millions and millions ............ very, very clever scripting, though.

The virus has indeed been quite troublesome in the past few days. there are also atleast 3 different variants of the virus out there as well; mothers day, joke and susitikim. You can also find information and help, in form of an anti-virus program from http://www.fsecure.com

Yup! Beware of Mother's Day invoices.

The thing to bear in mind is that the things are VARIANTS. In other words, they are not new.
The viruses in question work in the same way as Melissa, etc.

They all mess with your PC if you ALLOW them to. Set your browser for maximum security, and most of the problems go away.
Don't depend on an anti-virus system to detect a problem after the event.
Just refuse to run any active content that comes to you from websites or email.
