"I sat me down to write a simple story that maybe in the end became a song
In trying to find the words which might begin it I found these were the thoughts I brought along
At first I took my way to be an anchor
I gathered up my fears to bide me round
But then I clearly saw my own delusion
and found my struggles fell above me down
In starting out I thought to go exploring and set my foot upon the nearest road
In vain I looked to find the promised journey but only saw how far I was from home
In searching I forsook the paths of learning
and sought instead to find some pirates gold
In fighting I did hurt those dearest to me but still no hidden truths did I unfold
I sat me down to write a simple story which maybe in the end became a song
the words have all been writ by one before me
wer'e taking time to try to pass them on
wer'e taking time to try to pass them on"

Is the album called 'A Salty Dog'
If it is I haven't got it, or heard it for that matter.

And I haven't a clue about Mcguires either.

Don't be gettin' too obscure now, or I will start listing songs by virtuoso electric spoons player, Finbar O'Bollocks.

Do we get more clues?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Rolan on Thursday, June 20, 2002 - 04:56 pm:

The song is called "Pilgrims Progress"...
Okay now, there's a song I heard about 3 times only when a kid, I don't know the title only the chorus and hardly... If someone can help, I'd appreciate..Here it is: 'she's been living in the night in another place and(or) time, she knew he(she) had to die, waiting for her lover trying not to cry, Camelote(I think she says Camelote...)
Eventhough I think it's rather hopeless, but thanks for those who'll try anyway

Okay, another clue on the song...
It was a California band, the album was done in 1975 on Warner Brothers and the title of the song is the next line after what was written above. The name of the band begins with an "A" and it is only one word which means nectar of the gods in Greek. *LMAO* How's that for a pack of clues?

"It's Not Easy Bein' Green" (lyrics by Joe Rapposo)

It's not that easy bein' green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold-
or something much more colorful like that.

It's not easy bein' green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water- or stars in the sky.

But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree.

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why? Wonder,
I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.

Hey Ludd, remember that one???

Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said,

"Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

If you could read my mind, love
What a tale my thoughts could tell .....

Better still ...................

Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush
Chorus:
Can I just have one a' more Moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love

Well, I wanna make love to you tonight
I can't wait 'til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you can't hide

Chorus

Repeat 1st Verse

One more Moondance with you in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moonlight
On a magic night
Can't I just have one more dance with you my love

*smile* ...

Accasbel, can't we get an option to ignore all posts by anonymous guests? Maybe that'd make people be polite. Maybe we should vote in a Tir Law? Yeah..... that's the trick..... Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Accasbel on Saturday, August 17, 2002 - 08:58 am:

Every post is sort-of anonymous.
Without actually meeting people, we don't know who's really behind any of the names here.
We can guess. We can get a feeling.
We can't know for sure.

However, using 'guest' or using more than one name in order to make insulting or smartass remarks is bad manners, at the least.

The best 'law' that I can suggest is a law that each one of us can apply for ourselves.
Ignore anonymous/insulting/troublemaking posts.
Such posts belittle the poster, and not the reader.

I am just a poor boy, though my story's seldom told

All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest mmmm...mmmm...

When I left my home and my family, I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers...
In the quiet of the railway station, runnin' scared
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters, where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know

Li la li... li la la la li la li
Li la li... li la la la li la li

A long long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while.
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

Mac's a winner!! Sorry LS but that is incorrect. You have the standard socially acceptable answer provided by people who think they're in the know. The real answer Mc has provided us with. You see contrary to popular belief it was the Pilot that inspired the music. In fact more oft than not when he flew upside down and the blood rushed to his head John (his nickname was Low Altitude John) he either wrote or inspired Buddy and the Boys to great feets and feats of music. If you get really hammered and drink boiler makers and listen to American Pie backwards you;ll hear the whole story.

A favourite for Samhain

Bonfires dot the rolling hills
Figures dance around and around
To drums that pulse out echoes of darkness
Moving to the pagan sound.

Figures of cornstalks bend in the shadows
Held up tall as the flames leap high
The green knight holds the holly bush
To mark where the old year passes by.

CLEMINTINE!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Guest on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 03:31 pm:

In a cavern, in a canyon
excavating for a mine,
Dwelt a miner, forty-niner
And his daughter, Clementine.

(Chorus:)
Oh my darlin', oh my darlin'
Oh my darlin', Clementine
You are lost and gone forever,
Dreadful sorry, Clementine.

Light she was, like a fairy,
And her shoes were number nine.
Herring boxes, without topses,
Sandals were for Clementine

(Chorus)

She drove ducklings to the water
Every morning just at nine.
Hit her foot against a splinter,
Fell into the foamy brine.

(Chorus)

Heard her calling, calling "Father"
Her voice was like a chime.
But alas, he was no swimmer,
Thought he'd lost his Clementine.

(Chorus)

Then a hero, a handsome hero,
Came arriving just in time,
Dove he quickly into the water,
And he save poor Clementine.

(Chorus)

Listen, Boy Scouts, heed the warning,
To this tale from forty-tine:
Artificial respiration
Was what save our Clementine.

(Chorus)

The hero left her for another,
But the story isn't told;
For the splinter that she tripped on
Was a lump of purest gold.

(Chorus)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Accasbel on Friday, February 14, 2003 - 11:53 pm:

It's true.
People on this side of the pond have a problem with pronouncing 'aluminum'.

It's probably because when we read 'aluminum', our brains refuse to register this strange non-word and jump to the nearest thing - which would be the word 'aluminium'.

My theory is that Americans were so shocked by a word with not just one, but two 'U's in it, that they became distracted and dropped the second 'i'.

:)

The Danes came to Ireland with nothing to do
But dream of the plunder, all Irish they slew.

And threw them all into the ocean.

In Ballinas there lived a lass
and every Sunday after Mass,
She'd go home and take a glass
and she'd go home by Byrna.

She won't go home across the fields,
the big carneals will stick in her heels,
she won't go home across the fields,
But she'll go home by Byrna.

No.3...Manfred Mann ~ Pretty Flamingo is correct Celt.

Will leave the other two a while longer to see if anyone has a lightbulb moment.

Hint....they were both British artists, one a fairly popular 60's band the other a popular raunchy husky-voiced leather-clad female singer.

*waves to Lacie* :)....was that a song called "Wichita Linesman" sung by one Glen Campbell??? BTW...Has anyone ever seen Val Doonican around lately??!! How old is he and does he still sing that song about the Motorcar...what was it...O'Flaherty's Motorcar...or something like that...*LOL*...or was it Paddy McGinty's Goat? I know it's about something that moves or drinks.

I have a question!...Why didn't TV give any shows out to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Canned Heat, Joe Cocker, Black Sabbath, or Deep Purple? *LOLOLOL* Can you imagine it!

I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the same song or singer you are asking about?...Broken Wing...do you mean "Take these broken Wings"...? The lyrics go something like this???....

"Take....these broken wings....and learn to fly again...learn to live soooo freee....and when we hear...the voices sing....the book of love will open up and let us in..."

I can't remember who sang that song, but I use to like it a lot.

Chris Rea is cool but I prefer his later work (less Jazzy). I would really recommend his 'Stony Road' album written aboutee years ago when he had cancer, very dark (delta style) blues in parts. Great Lyrics & Slide Guitar.
