Tís simply the normal waxing and waning of the web. Much like the moon which always goes full again, the Tír will get full again. There have not been any really interesting threads lately. I would be willing to wager that many if not most of the Tír still visits and reads looking for a thread to spark their fire.

If your lurking, post yourself and be seen. You over in the corner, come on out. You three at the front desk get over here. All of you trying to swipe Stoli from Colleen's vat, time to pay for the drinks.

This is an official Tír roll-call If your here, answer up.

*Wrinkling eyes in merriment an picturing a tail worthy o' any beautiful Raven an the regs o' Tir*

Once ter was a great gatherin' place known as Tir na Nog. It was guarded an pontificated by ta noble Accasbel. It was a place o' comfort, musing, drinks, an food ta move any bowel tha was irritabowel w' ta stresses o' e'ry mundane day life. Ta Innkeeper was quick ta point out ta facilities fer others but would not bowel down ta anywun who could do fer themself wha they espected o' him.

Sad as it seems, I agree with Luddie. I didn't last time we discussed it - I thought there would be others coming through to add to and embellish the chat. That hasn't happened ...

I can tell you now .. the Tir I remember is lively, quick witted (although sometimes slow to refresh!! *L*) and frequented by any number of amazing people .. and some not so amazing?? *s*

A long, slow death is painful ... although ... although ....

I'm here

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Accasbel on Saturday, June 5, 2004 - 01:27 am:

It's very simple.
Tír doesn't have a mission. It's not a commercial undertaking. It wants nothing from you. It's not out to screw you. It just happens(ed) to exist. This is a very old-fashioned concept in today's Net, but Tir started way before today's Net was nightmareded of.

The Tír that Lacie remembers was indeed as she remembers it. There was no advertising. There was no marketing plan, no business plan. It just happened. It was an accident enabled by a technical design exercise - with a bit of something thrown in. Like-minded souls just happened to find each other through a shared interest in things Irish/Mythological.
In those days, there were less people looking, and there was less to find. Gravitation was easier then.
Nowadays, Google (is your friend) will point searchers at all sorts of sites, but some sites exist only in cache, and others only in cash.
To be fair and realistic, Google may point to infinitely more wonderful sites. I can't say whether or not. I haven't looked.

Yes Ludd, they shoot horses. But that's primarily to put them out of their misery, and not to put them out of people's misery.
Sometimes they put horses out to grass - and that's where Tír is.

Tír is out to grass for a number of reasons.
- People move on
- Fashions and expectations change
- People are too polite/intimidated to deal with particularly persistent/obnoxious multi-named posters and expect nanny/daddy/demi-god to fix community issues
- crap happens
- whatever

Nothing technical (apart from the chat script) has changed.
It's all down to people, culture, expectations, etc.

Even if you don't shoot a horse, it will eventually die, fall over, and rot.
The technicalities of Tír will continue to exist as long as someone keeps paying for the hosting of something to which Tír just happens to be attached to. This may be longer than your average horse's lifespan.
In the meantime, Tir is open (within reason) to whatever people want.

Yup! Times were wild. People were pissed off with slow refresh times in Beseen/Unseen chat - because there was a lot going on.
But that was then. This is now.
Forget about the past.

Daddy/nanny/Demi-god is out to lunch.
Men are from Earth, Women are from Earth. Work with it.

Be happy.

*Tucking in Silky and kissing her on the forehead* Notice how some stories are meant to make an ass out of the Guest posting them? Now you rest assured, and I will share a sweet bedtime story with you. I think this one will delight you as you seem to enjoy the ASININE (pertaining to or like an ass...Considered a stupid, obstinate animal) antics of ~Malauna~. *giggling and shimmying ARSE-9 times* I belong to A.A.(Asinine Amongus) and head up the Asinine Support group. *Duct-taping arse for support*

Yesterday is History…
Tomorrow is a Mystery…
Today is a Gift…that is why it is called the Present!

I don’t know why but I happened upon an odd sheet protector box that I was going to toss away but looked inside. I found some things I had recorded about memorable experiences at Tir.

If anyone thinks the Past Tir was always chat, chat and more chat…
History speaks for itself:

LATE NIGHT AT TIR-1999

Late Night at Tir: Looks as if things are really lively here at Tir tonight!
Late Night at Tir: Top ten reasons for stayin up late at night and chatting *drum roll*:
Late Night at Tir: 10) No action at home tonight, either.
Late Night at Tir: 9) Sleeping pills and subliminal tapes aren’t working.
Late Night at Tir: 8) I love talking to myself…makes me feel important when I am the center of attention at Tir.
Late Night at Tir: 7) Just curious how many lurkers actually read.
Late Night at Tir: 6) I love sitting on a bar stool at Tir until my butt is numb.
Late Night at Tir: 5) I enjoy imagining that I actually have friends at Tir.
Late Night at Tir: 5) I am out of work and hope David Letterman will be lurking and want to hire me.
Late Night at Tir: 3) I can’t count backwards past 5.
Late Night at Tir: 2) Great minds think great thoughts while deep in the top ten at Tir.
Late Night at Tir: AND NUMBER 1! *Drummmmmmm roooooooolll*
Late Night at Tir: 1) I got bored reading the Message Board.
Late Night at Tir: Ahhh…I love being the center of attention all alone in the SPOTLIGHT of Tir.
Late Night at Tir: Thank you and Goodnight!

(Then Sprite buzzes in but I could not find the first page of our chat so will continue)

Sprite: haha tonight purdddy low. LMAO *does the limbo*
LateNight at Tir: *lying on back and sliding under Sprite’s low* Oops…seems to have hung up to dry on Mt. St. Helen’s…*G*
LateNight at Tir: *Removing $100 bills from Over Shoulder Boulder Holder*
Sprite: LMAO…better watch out…hear Rainier (sp) is going next. LOL
Sprite: ROTFL *Passes key to broom closet*
Sprite: Oops that didn’t sound right. ROTFLMAOOOO
Late Night at Tir: Thanks for the key. Does that mean I get to clean up tonight or do you have someone stashed away in the closet for me? *thinks it better be a real man*
Sprite: Hmmm thinks drink tastes like dirty socks and needs more polish remover.
Sprite: take your pic. Domesticity or man?
Late Night at Tir: *Sniffing drink* Could use a little lemon oil to help me POLISH it off?
Sprite: Well…I give ya back the spotlight. LOL. I gotta be up early LMAO @ the pun.
Late Night at Tir: *looks in broom closet for lemon oil* Hey…who left the fur lined cuffs and Victoria’s Secret’s undies?
Sprite: ~waves bye. Buzz~
Late Night at Tir: *Bision starting to burr* Ya know, yurrrr really hansum… *Holding broom to her Mt. St. Helen’s Victoria’s Secret* Ssshhhh!!!
Late Night at Tir: *whispers to broom* We’re alone now…lez keep thiz in the clozat.
Late Night at Tir: *slurps down drink and starts singing ‘Here Comes The Broom* You are sho hanshum *hic* Ganite… *passes out in closet*

Sprite later told me on ICQ that she never knew who it was she was chatting with. She had been going through some tough times and enjoyed the laughter. That is what Tir has always been about…sharing with one another.

My copy of this was handwritten as C.I.D. (Certified Internet Dummy) had no idea yet that she could copy the entire chat in a couple of clicks. Sprite later did come visit with her children at my home. She is just as cute and bubbly in person as chatting in cyberspace.

Just a bit o’Tir history!

Umm sorry do not understand the silk and maluna posts but that is probably just me.........

But Accasbel yes I agree with a lot of that and am going to be practical myself by entering the Inn every time I visit rather than check who is there already.

When I see old names such as sorcha and monadh who I just missed recently it was very nice to know they had visited so I am going to leave footprints and hope to just be lucky with my timing

Many thanks for your thoughts

No Ludd, it's not just you.
I don't understand the Malauna stuff either.
To be honest, it sounds just plain daft and not in the least funny. I'm sick and tired of the Malauna/and-all-the-other-names-she-adopts drivel.

It could be that such postings have had an effect on the (ex)population of Tir.
It's time you moved elsewhere Malauna.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Ghost on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 - 12:51 am:

Ludd, I empathise entirely and I also mourn those days.
Times are changing and so are people and not for the better. Lets face it, it's a cruel world and we are all becoming hardened to it through the constant barrage of the media. You come to believe that there is no hope and shit happens and so you care less. Innocence lost? It was not always so. The idea of Tir being an oasis of calm in a world of crises was a brilliant concept and I thank Accasbel for that!

This is a site where I was welcomed and there was an air of kindred spirit and a great craic and I SO MISS IT.
It was an escape where we could all get away from our troubles and the troubles of the world and we could play and pretend as we did as children.
It was a place of imagination and laughter where it was always sunshine and you looked forward to visiting after a stressful day. Age, Health, Creed, Gender didn't matter because we were all here sharing the fantasy.
Now it FEELS like there is an undercurrent of intolerance and maybe other ex-pats have felt it too.
I believe Tir na nOg should be for all who seek and find it so I never thought I'd see the day that someone would be asked to leave for being different.
I have also annoyed Accasbel in the past so will I be asked to "Fade to Black" too?

A disillusioned Ghost fades to Grey.

Hmmmm...doesn't sound like the Acc I know. Could it be an imposter?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Silk on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 - 02:44 am:

Arriving home from work today, I made myself lunch and popped in fer a peek at Tir before I head oot tae th'garage to continue with my art studies.

*sigh* I enjoy my time visiting Tir, have learned much about myself, and met many lovely people of varying states of health - bodily, mentally, spiritually, all suffering from what is no more than the realities of life in it's many guises. So it was with great sadness I read Ludd and Acc's posts.

If the statement so firmly put by Accasbel only days ago is to stand in proud form today... "Men are from Earth,Women are from Earth, Work with it"... then please someone, explain to me how it is that it is now okay to turn around within days of the same and slam Malauna the way the message does? Seems rather unfair.

It is also apparently evident that my own personal interest in the wide range of folk who come online to this site is less than appreciated. In order to find connections and cameraderie with the wonderful diversity of man/womenkind on the internet I choose to happily talk to another in the 'style' that they are comfortable with, and as you may well know, I too have my own 'clownish' style, whereby I create an "online skit" often on my own whilst waiting to see if anyone is around, but also with those who care to join in for a little fun and laughter.

So bite me hard and call me flippant! :O but don't try inflicting a double standard when all it reflects back are your own insecurities about relating to a person. Maybe you both need to practice what Acc preaches and "WORK WITH IT" guys???

Ludd and Acc, with the limited contact I've had with either of you It had struck me that you seemed fair and reasonable types, but now I have to ask, where is your compassion and understanding of what constitutes true humanity.

Malauna in the short time I have known her, has neither caused me harm, or any discomfort despite the words of warning which flowed from a few members who gave the impression I should not have even bothered to give Mal the time of day, let alone try and find some common threads in life to chat and laugh about as is the norm when getting to know someone. Yes she has a lot of unusual information to share, and perhaps this is an inappropriate place to do so, but my feelings are that she has shared these things with good intent and in keeping with her own belief and value system.

If you want exclusivity and the mundane for TirnanOg then certainly, make it a paid membership site with constitution, regulations, standards, and set agendas. If it's creativity, and a genuine intermixing of cultures, and ideas, then cut the crap and "WORK WITH IT".

Perhaps the key understanding of Tir lies in one of the first comments made by Acc, that Tir "wants nothing from you"..."It just exists".

So does a plot of land Acc. Yet some people like to take that plot and dream...build, decorate, beautify and shape it until they see something interesting and inviting. If you just want it to exist without any disturbance, then surround with 7 foot fences, lock the gate and set the watchdog to work.

..."Bang the rocks together guys", there may just be a spark and the wind might just be blowing the right way today.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Silk on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 - 08:36 am:

Oh is that all. Good then, Ludd. I am pleased to see you clarify your position for me and any others who perhaps inadvertently picked up on there being a hint of 'banding together' against what seems to be a matter of perception of what is daft and what is not. Better clarification than being lumped into a stereotype that doesn't fit, eh Ludd!

That then lands the question of the seemingly jaw snappin' narrow-mindedness cleanly at Accasbel's door. So whassup Acc, o' great leader? Why the nastiness towards Malauna? Care to also clarify the need to publically sting a woman on your website who from what I can see was only trying to be supportive and helpful to some members, and playful with others?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Accasbel on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 - 09:07 am:

Yes, we have to work with it, but when the place becomes drowned out by one particular poster using numerous handles, then - after /b{years of it} - my way of working with it is to cry halt now.

That's years of it.

It's been many years since I told Helen that what she was doing was inappropriate.
It's been years since I last responded to one of the continuing streams of emails that she directs at me.
It's clear the the way that I've 'worked with it' in the past doesn't work.
I don't believe that there is a sensitive way of stopping her outpourings here. She has said a number of times in the past that she was leaving but she always comes back. She might indeed be back posting again before long.

I've watched for years as she tries to pull others into her own world/otherworld thinking.
I've heard the echoes from others when the scales eventually fell from their eyes.

She doesn't mean any harm, but her delusions have the potential to harm vulnerable people. Those delusions spewed at such length and volume here over the years have also been a source of intense annoyance.
That's years!

It might seem unfair to those who have known one of Helen's persona for a short time, but to anyone who's been exposed to a number of them for years it will probably seem like 'about time too'.

In the long history of Tír, only one person has ever been banned. That was many years ago, and the events that brought it about were extreme.

There is no fence. There is no exclusivity or any wish to have such a thing.
There is however a reasonable limit to behaviour. Helen has been exceeding that for a long time.

Ghost. I don't remember you as having annoyed me.
Even if you had done so, you would have to really infuriate me, and keep doing so despite warnings before you'd be faded from this end.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Daryl on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 - 01:35 pm:

Acc,

(First of all please forgive me, everyone for the long posting.)
I've known Helen for many years, and have seen her many different posting handles. I think her voice speaks clearly enough to know that it is our own dear Helen, regardless of what name is being used. In former times, she used the various handles to indicate the mood she was in at the time of the posting, or so it seemed to me. She has only used one handle since she returned, and on the boards she has been one of the personalities that has bored some, and helped others to laugh.

What has made this board so different, is that all civil points of view have always been tolerated and accepted. There have been times when you and I have not seen eye to eye, and times when we have had open arguments on the board.

I have come to respect your choice to keep this board G-rated (or at least PG-13) and to keep it free from overly polarizing issues such as politics, and anything else that gets into heated debates. In the revival of the Tír, I think it to be bad karma to attempt to expel one of its longest standing citizens. To do so in such a public way, is not like you at all.

You have always tried to keep the peace on the board. This goes against everything you have been trying to do. The "delusions spewed at such length" has a great deal to do with the form and shape of the Tír.

Does anyone not know that Colleen has a vat, and it is kept full of Stoli? (Except when we raid it of course) There are rooms in the Tír that are very well known to all of us here, even though they are all delusions, because they only exist in cyberspace.

So Helen and you do not agree on things, so what? So she has posted under many different names, we can name them all if you desire, so that all people will know what postings belong to her. I seem to recall we all had a good time a couple of years ago trying to guess the guest, when we last discussed multiple posters.

I went to your aid defending you as the original Cuchulain. I did so, because it was in middle of one of our arguments on a different section of the board, and I felt you would not accept the support while you were disputing me in a different area.

Who has not used the cover of the guest account, to post things? I dare say, that I have really infuriated you in the past, and we both still remain, because we both believe in the good of this realm that you sponsor and that everyone who has ever posted here together created, including MsTree, Tao, Malauna, Helen (I think I got all of the major ones, Helen forgive me if I have missed any.)

If it had not been for the encouragement received from her and Lacie when I first arrived back in 1999, I might not have stuck around. There are many other regulars, that if they think back to their first visits here, were welcomed by MsTree or Tao also known as Helen.

I appeal to your sense of this community, do not do this thing that will drive a wedge into the Tír, from which we may never recover.

Helen and all her incarnations are annoying, if not detrmental to Tir.

We have had many, many a time when one incarnation or another has caused trouble to the point of annoyance and anger.

In each of these times ACCASBEL has stood by Helen and her varied incarnations. He has stood by her right to differing names/differing personalties. He has even stood by her right to 'linger around' and cause trouble.

If Acc has had enough (I think about time!) then so be it!!

It's been said before... many times....
It's generally unhelpful to react negatively to something, especially if it's not clear that offence/rudeness was intended.

That's 'generally' - for the benefit of any pedants about :)

Hey all!!!! :)

Interesting posts...and I admit, I'm one of those who have strayed. *hangs head* I discovered a new world that has, literally, changed my life, and have sadly neglected my first home.

I shall endeavor to be around more...:)

BTW...Acc and Lace...good you. :)

Gadge...the one thing Lace is NOT know for is rudeness.

*ROFL* How did I become 3 separate people on this board? Figured out my log-in problem Acc!

I've met amazing people in real life that will be my friends for life, met a movie star (Adam...NO, not Alec!...Baldwin), Kelsey Grammar (yup, Frasier himself!), James McDaniel from NYPD Blue, and Nathan Fillion.

It's been...mind-boggling. :)

I like morgan llewelyn. and Christy Moore talked to me one time (on his web site)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Accasbel on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 10:29 am:

I once elbowed Christy Moore out of my way, not noticing who he was.
I was in a hurry carrying a dirty great loudspeaker into a pub where he was about to perform. His own sound equipment had gone walkies so my younger bro's stuff was going in in panic mode.

If I'd recognised him, I'd have said something polite. - like - "Ger ourra me bluddy way ya fecking eejit" - or something.

As for Ralph McTell (he of 'The streets of London') - He was sitting on the floor at a very crowded folk club in London. I stood on his toe and spilled beer on him. "Hi Ralph!"

Yup, that's me. Mingling with the famous and upsetting them :)

I once talked to James Brown for about ten minutes, in a parking lot the entire time telling him he looked familiar, and him just smiling and saying he was fairly sure I had seen him around. It was right behind his offices, and he mentioned that if I went back out to the main street I would probably figure out where I had seen him before.

I've just analysed your last message.
From your spelling it appears to me you are having difficulties confronting issues of casual sex and marriage.
Your flirtation with celibacy doesn't appear to be working but, I have the solution.
I recommend you find a randy girlfriend who is afraid of commitment.

*G*...th'only way y'can blow a golf ball up is with a little mound of gunpowder carefully drizzled into the 13th hole, and a length of electric fuse wire running all the way back to the comfort of the clubrooms!

Gunpowder?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Orin on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 03:30 pm:

It was the 12th of July fiasco here recently, and I couldn't help but draw comparisons
(or lack of) with the 4th of July shindig in the States.
Fat tattooed drug dealing, pimping and racketeering amoebas
beating seven shades of shit out of the local nationalist residents
doesn't quite have the same appeal I'd imagine.

On a lighter note though, my father was taking part in a cross cultural music and dance celebration a few weeks ago
and by all reports there are plans now for a bigger production.

But more importantly my young cousin seems to have charmed a culturally diverse female,
whom he met at aforementioned event. Enough in fact that she seems to be quite a frequent visitor to Strabane.
And to her credit she wise enough to know that a reciprocal visit by him wouldn't be such a good idea....looking after his welfare already, I'm impressed!
One step at a time.

Nothing to do with your thread Ludd, just thought the board looked a bit Spartan

last year i was in the States for the 4th of july, what a great day ,at least over there the flags fly for the right reasons. compare those reasons to my a-ho neighbour(not good enough even to be called an arse-hole)who has the union jack flying in his garden since the 12th, i wonder if they can trace the petrol back to my lawn mower.Thank God i was well away from here for the 12th sinking the black stuff in louisburg.
