Glockenspiel in Irish?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Guest on Monday, July 29, 2002 - 04:17 am:

The Irish would never stoop to playing a glockenspiel, so why would they have a word for it?

Hey !!!! I've already been to the Rock's place. He knows I'm a fairly dangerous extra dry agent that is capable of spontaneous world combustion (never incinerate an aerosol can), excessive drinking and TONS OF FUN!! As for sharp objects, my children hide them on me at home so I'll certainly feel right at home!
Hey Wun, I know what I just said in another e-mail BUT ...... ya never know maybe I can drag the Rock here down to the great SW for an evening of cow tipping, lone star beer, singing depressing lost love songs, a cry in your beer contest and all sorts of ridiculous shenanigans. Whatta ya say to that?
I've always wanted to go cow tipping!!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message  By Brianfrommex on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 - 03:13 pm:

New Swan Stone,Fionn. Pronounced, sort of, like this: Noy Shvahn Stine. Now, how WOULD you say that in Gaelic? NeuSchwanstein is the famous fairy-tale style castle on the Rhine on which the Disney castle seems to be based. I'm not sure, but I think Mad King Ludwig of Bavaria built the castle.Glocken, by the way means bells and spiel comes from spielen(to play) hence glockenspiel is, roughly,"musical bells." And yes, the musical bells of a German Town Clock would be called Glockensiel.

So tell me Indy, how many cows did you have? What were their names, zodiac signs, etc etc. Where are they now? Do you still keep in touch with them?

Ludd,

How many times do we have to tell you, you don't marinate glockenspiels in shroom tea.

Hi Folks,

I just found this site - got to say I really like it! I'm wondering if (perhaps as an exception), someone could translate "ass***e" in Irish for me. No! it's not to insult anyone - it's for an African friend, who like everyone hearing a new language for the first time is more than interested in the odd swear word... I know it's an odd request but if someone could translate for me, I would be very grateful!! One way or the other, it's a great site, so keep up the good work .

Tir gan teanga, tir gan anam .

Tóin - the bit of you that you sit on.
Póg mo thóin - Kiss my ..

As always, it is not always possible to directly translate the words and get the same meaning at the other end (so to speak). One can only find different words that convey the same sort of meaning.
