I'm interested in hearing what you may have to say on the subject..if indeed you have an opinion.
I've been researching this for a bit now, and have been trying to track down sources on the net, with some success..though most of what I have found is in reference to Simon's edition..which has been said to be a hoax..and H.P. Lovecraft's own research and consequent works on the subject, which are mostly bonkers.
Geesh would I love to read the real thing!

I knew a guy by the name of Caruthers years ago who had an old version of the book. I did not inquire too much since he and I did not get along well.

I suppose saying that H.P. Lovecraft's work was bonkers is a little harsh and I should refrain..I only mean that nothing replaces the original...save an exact copy of it.(in case there are any Lovecraft fanatics out there *L*)
Apparently the original Necromonicon was copied thrice, of which at least one copy was subsequently translated into Greek, (Though most say the Greek copy perished several centuries ago. However, several other translations were supposed to have been made from this,of which a few are said to be locked away in some museums or private collections.
I recently read a short biography on Abdul Alhazred, often referred to as the 'Mad Arab'..was very interesting.

The Necronomicom is available at bookstores in (shock) the occult section. I've seen it at Barnes and Nobles as well as Walden Books. Look also for books by Anton Wilson as he has delved into this dark spellbook. Proceed with caution however, this is dangerous material. I think Lovecraft's work is quite bonkers *LOL*

I agree guest. Lovecraft is quite strange. I had a hard time reading any of it and it left me feeling like I had waded through corpses. The Necronomicon is a dangerous book and should be treated with caution. But then, I'm a little superstitious when it comes to conjuring things through demons and the dead.

necronomicon and sumerian circle magik

the necronomicon no matter what its debate of exsistance came from various parts in very early time. these people assosiated with it had come across an ancient formula practiced in ancient sumer. the book we buy now the necronomicon the actual story of the mad arab, lovecrafts stories etc came from their experience and aqusition of some knowledge. but some of the formula for the casting and use of a ancient magik circle in the dawns of humanity are there, and which this formula has been egary tried to be whiped out by other religions especially christianity throughout time.

its a fragmented formula. But it is one that the parts that are missing can be learnt of spirits if the person is meant to follow and discover this path. I have studied it with the purest of hearts, and been shown in the most beautiful ways and visual ways my path to do the ritual of the walking. im not in it for power or self gain tho i have been shown and given the guidence to follow and talk with an ancient goddnesss inanna. my preperation to do the ritual is now 4years in the making, but even at the age of 7 i was given a pure gift of the ability to unite with a spirit wolf to have a mysterious connection of moon worship for after all the first gate is the goddess of the moon, the innitiation of the spirit into sumerian magik. THe power of the necronomicon does work, i know that for a fact other people have seen it and a gift i have with it. so stop paying it out. if you dont believe in magik its a real shame. many false believers out there, each to his own, stop paying out the oldest form of magik that was ever documented and go watch re runs of charmed

I had always been curious about this religion because it was. So many centuries of organised religions, wars and secret society’s doing their best to hide or banish this way of thought. I had been shown spirits are real and I wanted to test the waters of their and my consciousness. I came to realise any religion was a focus of energy, one which we don’t fully understand. With the ways of this old, the energy was made focused on the ground, a magik circle with its barriers and centre point (you). It would open a gateway to a unfamiliar and dangerous world but a world I want to see. If I could harness the power which has long been forgotten, what a better age to do it in as now, a world of shallow thought and conformity, denial and blurred vision.

Heres what happened. In year 12 one of the essays we had to write was a informative essay. I was reading the necronomicon (book of the dead, about the Sumerian faith energy and formula for the circle) at the time and thought it would be a very different subject to write about and would stand out. I typed my essay on the faith and was watching the pages come out of the printer. The pages had a symbol about the size of a 20cent piece on the top right corner. It had to parallel horizontal lines with a circle in the middle and lines within that. I looked back on screen and the symbol was there. I was using Microsoft word and I could click and drag the picture whatsoever. Make of it what u will but here are the 3 facts I cant deal with.
A) I was at the computer the whole time
B) I have nothing of the sort on my computer and
C) I was not online.

This sparking my curiosity I spent 2 years trying to work out what the symbol was, but to no avail. It looks similar to some of the gates and seals but to what, im not sure. Evil is deceiving and could have handed me this to walk the wrong path so I didn’t try anything with it.

The second major experience was… I was growing tiered stressing about what I should do with the symbol, I knew enough to rush in and not experiment with it straight away. I needed my armour and knowledge that in case it was evil I would be able to cope with whatever situation arose. Tho how can u really prepare for the unknown?? I was lying in bed and simply asked the gods what direction should I take and why cant I find my answers.{ I had been smoking cigarettes in my room and had incense on so it was rather smokey… I had a long room from my bed and on the other side was some glass doors leading to outside. After I asked my question in a meditative prayer the moon came into view outside my glass doors… afew moon beams shot across my room which were extremely visible because of the smoke. They danced around my heart for around 20mins. I cried during this time, it was a feeling I cant find any words to explain. Having ure heart connected like that with light all the way to the moon was unbelievable!. It melted my heart, enritched my head and filled my spirit with the most sacred of energies. After around 20minutes the moon disappeared and it grew dark. I became a little scared of what may have been attracted to what just happened so I turned on my light and began reading in the moon the significance of the moon.

It was the first passage in the ritual of the walking. A ritual that is a invitation into the religion, a unique passage to the gods. In the ritual the circle is cast the watcher is called to look after the body and the circle and the spirit passes through a series of gates and speaks with different spirits. In the ritual I needed silver,, this is why I hadn’t tried the ritual yet. I always pondered whether I could use either pure silver or something silver based… holding me back from trying the formula. After reading about the moon and the rituals again I turned on my television… there was a musician talking about his new silver trumpet, and he said afew seconds after I turned on the tv “the different the surface the different tune it will play” my question was answered!.

NO evil can imitate the moons power! Having light dance around your heart beaming at its fullest and bright as ive ever seen…it was coming from an ancient healer.

As well as been given my direction and key I was given the courage to walk the path, which I needed and is extremely important. I shall have nothing to fear because I am protected and called by a higher power. Secondly I was given new eyes to see another world, another existence but only for afew seconds, it was more than enough to set my place as a human, and a taste of an existence to powerful and pure that was no doubt forever remain curious about. Now tell me how the fuck can anyone understand what ive experienced… people based understanding in its true form based on their own experience… where, what do u draw from to understand what/has and is happening. It would be and therefore I know more than ever no ones opinion on this counts anymore but my own.. I cant even give someone a taste not even this of what knowledge I have gained through something so old and wise. Society beats me down and tells me is a wrong path, even just by not just believing but moreso not understanding. I have to have more moments I listen to this voice, I have to shut the eyes that are clouded by all of this and open and learn to see out of the eyes I have been given. I am using them now just a little bit, blinking like a baby at birth, crying from a deliverance from a world that it could only grow so much…..

Here is another persons path into the same religion,,, but had not experienced the right guidance. I have my protection and a key, and have been called this person has not but has the same curiosities and revelations as some that I have… he/she explains them well

I ask of you to read beginning to end as I try and explain…
The struggle between good and evil has been a reality in the human mind since the day man walked the earth. Man has only touched on the boundaries of this so called war of the realms, but the time ever draws closer when a chosen one shall bring forth to this time the realities in which the human mind cannot conceive to this day. Religion, any religion has skimmed the surface of knowing a god, or a spiritual being, they all have a ability to hint the forces possible on this earth, but only one has the ability to reach them. What I speak of has been scattered all over the world. Christianity has wiped most of the knowledge clean from the human mind, thus the reason it was created. Before the coming of so called ‘chirst’, man was near to opening the gates to the spheres, the gates to the gods and to the wicked. But they were stopped and now drawn into the illusion of what you know as modern day, fallen into the trap like all the others. Only sheer remains of the formula remain, most found in the book of the necronomicon. This scripture has been alive long before the foundations of Christianity or for that fact most other religions. The world label such as occult, evil which is only part of the illusion in which has been created. Most humans know, deep hidden inside their minds that the spirit will live on, they hope they will go to ‘heaven’ or a much better place, but this only play’s on man’s fear of death. The spirit is real, the body is a shell and far less important than what lies inside, primal to mankind. Any argument with a religion in the end all comes down to faith, but I talk of much more. If you dwell in the dark, and are blinded by the light you much know the potential power that is within your grasp, but the dark is not evil, but holds the gods in which have been hidden from you for centuries. When your shell dies, the spirit lives on but most are mislead by the lie for many centuries. I come with an offer, and offer to excel your spirit, and thus if you want a religion that will prove itself in psyical form if you desire it to. I speak of that of the necronomicon, only sections left have been collated and are inscribed forth in the book, but the lost words will be spoken to you, as you are ready to climb into the heavens. I offer much more than you probably realize, but realize this if no more. If you desire to be powerful than anyone else around you, or touch on any form of real magic, then hear this.

If you choose to listen I will tell you little more, and the best advice I can give to you is to buy this book. Read it carefully and practice nothing until you are protected from ‘so called evil’. Once you know thy gods one has to decide which path to take, ‘good’, or ‘evil’, so to speak. Those can summon the gods, and awe at their power, learn and become more powerful than you can ever imagine over thy fellow man. The other is to misuse the power, this a temptation my many and sure enough will show itself to you, but will either be scared off or consumed by more horrors than you can ever imagine. I have not started my walking, this I am not ready to receive thy name and pass through the gate. In my impatience for the religion to prove itself I tempted evil and found it, scaring me away for a long time. I may have left a gate open, not realizing the truths and power of what I speak, and was plagued by a not so very powerful igiggi, a wandering demon that found me, but the exorcisms are inscribed, thus after realizing what I had done rid my soul of this force that had taken advantage of me. But in time you will learn not to make these simple mistakes. There are to ways you will most defiantly choose if you take my advice.
The first you will be awed by the gods, or scared by the demons, but you will loose interest because today you are forced to make something of your life, quickly forgetting what you started.
Secondly you may choose to follow on, but rarely this is taken. I realize the power of the necronomicon, and what is inscribed but I am only beginning to wander into the realm of this forgotten way, since I am young and undecided about my future. I promise if you take the advice you will be shown things that you would never dream would exist. I must warn that the translation of this book has come from ancient sumerian, thus some of the exorcisms are hard to pronounce, thus a risk is taken. I send this message because this truth must be realized, because soon not the end of the world is coming as predicted, but a new one shall begin. If you are interested in anything ‘dark’ or have fallen into the humorous realm of being attracted to satan, or have interests in spirits or anything of that matter I offer much more. I offer only to try and convince you of the possibilities, but I am scared that my youth and the simple fact that this is so very hard to explain could turn you off, but that is the risk I take. All I ask of you is to but this book, and if you read the book over, save the formula for later you will realize this as well. I can only offer, I hope you will listen but half of me hopes you don’t because many shall misuse the incarnations, or even summon the ancient ones, because all else has failed to prove itself. If you do take the advice I warn to be very careful, and understand what you are doing before attempting anything inscribed in the book. Know too that protection is needed or they will find you. The gods will know if you are faithful, thus they will prove themselves, but if you are just in it for fun, then you only risk yourself of being consumed by anything that will take advantage. I promise if you take it seriously then. Most of all I hope that this does not lead to any people you will know what I am only beginning to realize misusing the book and I am blamed for what horrors are created, may anu have mercy on my soul.

To whomever reads my story and the one above I ask you that you stay curious about other forms of energies that which you cannot see. Realise some can be harnessed for good and for evil. Know that there are some of these that have been used before Christ and that have been tried to have banished from human thought, why? If evil was the master of trickery, it would have humans be blinded from the truth by any means. Society, conformity and the pressure to live, work and raise a family are just one of the tools to stop people exploring this area of thought. Sometimes you feel a longing for something more for the spirit, even more than happiness. If the body is just a shell for the spirit then we are not much different from the spirits the walk around us and the realms in which they dwell. The umbilical cord from the body to spirit can be loosened even detached for short periods of time to investigate these realms. If not just to have it loosened so you can experience all the energies that life has to offer. My time has come to start focusing on doing the ritual of the walking… I CANT live and die not taking into account and not trying what I have been shown exists. I believe that what I was given was so unique I am going to see many things that couldn’t even be portrayed in a horror movie, the nightmares of children or in the warmth and use of that energy I felt when my heart was touched by the gods.

The Necronomicon (necro - dead, nom - name, con -with) Not the Book of the Dead, but the With the Name of the Dead. I have helped many who have delved into this so called religion. Some were beyond help and lost their lives and maybe their souls. Many have returned, changed greatly and thankful that they got out before it consumed them. All I can say is beware. You are free to read and practice what you will, but from what I have seen, the Necronomicon is a dangerous tool. Be wise.

I don't think anybody wants to offend you Spooky. You're just living a different reality than most of the folks here. I'd hazard a guess that most of the people inhabiting Tir know where their spiritual direction lies, even though we are all on the path of some sort until we close our eyes forever. It's like John Lennon sang, "when you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone, anyhow..." In other words, you're talking a lot of shite there with all that mumbo jumbo about demons and ancient gods that sort of freak most people out. I don't think you're going to gain any disciples of the Necronomicon here. It's dangerous and troubling to most people. Few people who are truly interested in Spiritual diversity have not at least considered the Necronomicon. I myself read it, in my youth, but found it lacking for the direction I wanted to take my life.

I have known folks who have chosen to follow its path, with the purest of intentions, but it always ends bad. There is an old saying that all knowledge is good, and my friends who chose that path used that as their mantra. Some knowledge while not bad, in and of itself, can lead to temptations that if given into, carry far too high of a price to pay.

The seat of action and power (knowledge) is within your own head ~ your brain. It is not an external feature.

That is where choices are made to act and suggestions become reality. What/who you associate with influences your actions and intentions daily.

It is wise to be discerning in your choice of 'close' associates and most of all to assume self responsibility for all you do and say.

yes, some good words of wisdom there guys.. i suggest im not gonna get many necronomic fans. even my own faith in the necro is going away but my quest to inanna isnt... nice words silk very wise...umm i have since figured that maybe this quest began in order to help me get a demon off my back i innocently ran into that was using the act of a tragic suicide to gain entrance into this world. i ran into it and wasnt sure if it got to me but it would explain allot and after that i had something helping me magically. its still here this demon on my back and is making me feel quite ill when i treaten it with banishment. i am going to try a tibitan ritual cause i have a exorsism dagger.. along with my power animal the white wolf and the help of inanna i should get rid of it.. any of you know a spirit that is evil and bends and disorts reality inside of it?? anyhoo rock on look foreward to responces
